Samantha Cleyn has been named as head of institutional for Canada at Ninety One, an international asset manager with headquarters in the U.K. and South Africa, according to a news release.
The position is new, and Cleyn will be based in Montreal.
Cleyn will work closely with current members of Ninety One’s Canadian team and will be responsible for driving commercial development in the market. This will include building relationships and raising assets with public and corporate pension plans, as well as global and local consultant engagement.
Cleyn's hire is part of Ninety One’s ongoing plan to expand the firm’s North American footprint and follows the appointment of Katherine Tweedie and Dana Hildebrandt as co-heads of the North America institutional client group in October.
"Canada is a distinctive market, and our growth has been driven by robust partnerships with our clients in the region," Tweedie said in the news release. "The addition of Samantha to our team further strengthens our capabilities."
Prior to joining Ninety One, Cleyn was managing director and head of institutional sales and service at BMO Global Asset Management, and was in that role since January 2023. BMO has been contacted for comment regarding her replacement.
Ninety One managed $171 billion in assets globally as of Sept. 30.
