Liliana Castillo Dearth joined Newton Investment Management as head of emerging markets and Asia equities, a spokesperson confirmed.
Dearth joined on Nov. 6 and replaced Paul Birchenough and Ian Smith, co-leads of the emerging markets and Asia equities team who left to pursue other opportunities.
Dearth oversees the firm's strategies and works closely with portfolio managers and investment analysts. She reports to John Porter, chief investment officer.
"Liliana brings with her a strong pedigree of two decades of global emerging markets experience," Porter said in a news release. Her proven investment approach strongly aligns with Newton's own philosophy of research-led stock selection and she shares our focus on maintaining a long-term investment approach to help identify enduring areas of growth."
Newton's emerging markets and Asia equities assets were not available. The firm runs a total $110.5 billion in assets and is an affiliate of BNY Mellon Investment Management.
Dearth was a portfolio manager at Wellington Management, where she developed and managed emerging market equity portfolios. A Wellington spokesperson could not immediately be reached for comment on a replacement.
