Sean Taylor has been named chief investment officer of investment management firm Matthews, effective Jan. 1.
At Matthews, Taylor will lead the firm's San Francisco- and Hong Kong-based investment teams and continue to "build on Matthews' active partnerships with institutional and professional clients," said an Oct. 11 release.
Taylor will report to Cooper Abbott, the chief executive officer of Matthews.
Taylor will succeed Robert Horrocks, who has decided to "step back from his current leadership responsibilities," the release noted. Following a transition period, Horrocks will step down from his CIO role at the end of 2023 and will remain as a portfolio manager on the Matthews Asian Growth and Income, Matthews Asia Dividend and Matthews Asia ex-Japan Total Return Equity strategies.
A spokesperson for Matthews said Horrocks first joined Matthews in 2008 and became CIO in 2009.
Taylor most recently served as chief investment officer-APAC and head of emerging markets at DWS Group.
DWS could not be immediately reached for further details.
Mathews had $11 billion in assets under management as of Sept. 30, 2023.
