Doug Byrkit has joined Matthews International Capital Management as head of distribution and global client service.
Mr. Byrkit assumes a newly created position at the firm, a spokeswoman for the company said by email.
In this role, Mr. Byrkit will lead Matthews' distribution and global client service teams and "deepen and expand client relationships in North America, with a particular focus on the firm's growing institutional business," said a Monday release.
Based in San Francisco, Mr. Byrkit reports to Cooper Abbott, chief executive officer of Matthews, the spokeswoman added.
Mr. Byrkit formerly served as head of institutional-Americas at Dimensional Fund Advisors.

Matthews had $13.2 billion under management as of Feb. 28.
