Beonca Yip joined Matthews Asia as head of Asia-Pacific to oversee the firm's business and distribution activities in the region, with a focus on growing its institutional business, the firm said in a statement on Tuesday.
Based in Hong Kong, she will expand the firm's client base in Asia-Pacific and provide tailored investment solutions for clients, the statement said. Matthews Asia has $12.9 billion in assets under management.
Ms. Yip started in the role on May 2 and reports to head of international distribution Neil Steedman, a spokesman said. He said it is a newly created role focused on institutional asset owners.
Ms. Yip replaces Hur-Ming Wong, who left Matthews Asia in October. He joined multiboutique asset manager Virtus Investment Partners as managing director and head of Asia business development in January.
"Asia-Pacific remains a strategically important region for Matthews and Beonca enhances our focus on sophisticated institutional investors in the region... Beonca's network and enthusiasm will strengthen relationships with existing clients as well as accelerate the growth of our outreach across the region as investors seek more customized, active exposures to emerging markets and Asia," Cooper Abbott, CEO, said in the statement.
Ms. Yip was a managing director and head of the global client group at China Asset Management Co. in Beijing. She led the distribution and client service teams until her departure in 2021. China AMC did not immediately respond to queries about her replacement.
