Isaac Meng joined Manulife Investment Management as a managing director, and portfolio manager fixed income, and Judy Kwok joined as head of greater China fixed-income research in what the firm called a sign of its commitment to the China market.
The two Hong Kong-based positions are new, a spokeswoman said.
Mr. Meng will be responsible for managing Manulife's China bond strategies. He reports to Paula Chan, the firm's senior managing director and senior portfolio manager, Asia fixed income.
He was senior vice president, portfolio manager and macro strategist at PIMCO Asia, according to a Manulife news release. A PIMCO spokeswoman said Stephen Chang, who leads PIMCO Asia portfolio management, and Carol Liao, the firm's China economist, will absorb Mr. Meng's responsibilities as the firm continues to add portfolio managers and credit research resources this year.
Ms. Kwok will manage Manulife's credit teams in greater China, while overseeing fixed-income research activities in greater China and North Asia. In addition, she'll lead the firm's efforts to increase collaboration and integration with the firm's joint venture on the mainland, Manulife-TEDA.
She was director of fixed-income research at Bank of Singapore. A spokeswoman for Bank of Singapore couldn't immediately be reached for comment.
Ms. Kwok will report to Fiona Cheung, head of global emerging markets fixed-income research.
As of Sept. 30, Manulife had $835 billion in global assets under management.
