Ellen G. Cooper, currently executive vice president, chief investment officer and head of enterprise risk and the annuity solutions business at Lincoln Financial Group, will succeed Dennis R. Glass as president and CEO following the company's annual shareholders meeting in May, Lincoln spokeswoman Holly Fair confirmed in an email.
Mr. Glass will become chairman of the board, while William H. Cunningham, Lincoln's current board chairman, will become the board's lead independent director.
"I'm humbled, honored, and excited to be asked to serve as the next president and CEO," Ms. Cooper said in a news release.
Ms. Cooper joined Lincoln in 2012 as executive vice president and CIO and subsequently added the roles of head of enterprise risk and, more recently, head of the annuity solutions group. Prior to Lincoln, she was managing director and global head of insurance strategy at Goldman Sachs Asset Management.
Mr. Glass lauded Ms. Cooper in the release as a "gifted, experienced executive with a proven track record of success" and thanked Mr. Cunningham for his leadership as board chairman.
"Working closely with the executive leadership team, we will begin to develop the transition plans immediately," Mr. Glass said.
Mr. Glass has served as president and CEO since 2007. Prior to taking on the CEO role, he served as president and chief operating officer.
Neither Ms. Cooper nor Messrs. Glass or Cunningham were available for interviews.
