Hidekazu Harada joined KKR in Tokyo as a managing director on the firm's private equity team.
The position is new, a news release by the private markets giant said.
KKR has invested or committed more than $2.2 billion of equity in target companies since the firm established its Tokyo office in 2006.
Mr. Harada joined KKR from Bank of America Merrill Lynch where he served as a board member and co-head of Japan investment banking.
A Bank of America spokeswoman confirmed Mr. Harada's departure but declined to say if he has been replaced in those roles.
