Tanya Barnes was named co-managing partner of J.P. Morgan Asset Management's new sustainability-focused growth private equity investment business, said a news release Monday.
Ms. Barnes co-heads a team alongside Osei Van Horne, a managing partner and head of sustainable growth equity investing. A JPMAM spokesman confirmed the details in the news release.
JPMAM is seeding the new growth equity sustainable investing business with an investment of up to $150 million, one of its largest capital commitments to an alternative investment strategy. The new sustainable investing strategy will invest in growth-stage private companies in the areas of resource use efficiency and climate change adaption across a range of industries.
Ms. Barnes was a managing director and head of impact investing at Blackstone. Ms. Barnes has not been replaced, a Blackstone spokeswoman said. Instead, Blackstone is making impact investments across multiple businesses and vehicles, she said.
"ESG is a major investment theme across the firm," the spokeswoman said.
JPMAM has $201 billion in assets under management in alternatives.
