Luther Bryan Carter was named head of global emerging markets debt at HSBC Global Asset Management, effective immediately.
Mr. Carter replaces Nishant Upadhyay, a news release said Monday. Mr. Upadhyay will remain with the firm focusing on fixed-income investment platform projects. Further details were not available.
Mr. Carter is based in London and reports to Xavier Baraton, global CIO for fixed income, private debt and alternatives. He is responsible for the management of the global EMD team, investment process and portfolios. His first initiative will be on deepening HSBC GAM's country research function, the release said.
A spokesman for HSBC GAM could not immediately be reached for comment. HSBC GAM has a total $517.1 billion in assets under management.
He was head of emerging markets fixed income at BNP Paribas Asset Management. A spokesman said Jean-Charles Sambor took over following Mr. Carter's departure.
