Pierin Menzli has been appointed global chief investment officer, equity for HSBC Asset Management, according to a news release.
Menzli succeeds Vis Nayar, who departed in February to join Eastspring Investments as chief investment officer. Menzli will be based in Switzerland and report to Xavier Baraton, global CIO.
In this role, Menzli will be responsible for managing HSBC AM’s active equity platform consisting of a team of 100 professionals and approximately $30 billion in assets, and also manage growth for the platform specifically focused on emerging markets, Asia and thematic and other specialized strategies.
Menzli joined HSBC AM in 2022 as CIO, thematic equity. HSBC did not immediately respond to a request for comment regarding a replacement. Prior to HSBC AM, Menzli was head of thematic equities at J. Safra Sarasin, a private bank headquartered in Basel, Switzerland.
Menzli’s appointment is “part of the ongoing effort” to “further scale up equity platform in our key areas of specialism,” Baraton said in the release. Menzli added that the team aims to “further strengthen long-term investment culture and offer differentiated active equities solutions to clients.”
HSBC AM managed $713 billion as of June 30.
