Fadi Abuali, CEO of Goldman Sachs Asset Management International, was also appointed co-CEO of Goldman Sachs for the Middle East and North Africa region.
Mr. Abuali — alongside Zaid Khaldi, head of Europe, the Middle East and Africa structured finance in the investment banking division — will replace Wassim Younan effective Jan. 1. Mr. Younan will retire from the firm, said a memo obtained by Pensions & Investments.
Messrs. Abuali and Khaldi retain their existing roles. Mr. Abuali is also head of the GSAM EMEA client business.
In the co-CEO MENA roles, they will continue to expand the firm's business in the region.
Mr. Abuali will remain based in London but will split his time between London and the MENA-based offices. Mr. Khaldi will relocate to Dubai. Both will report to Richard J. Gnodde, CEO of Goldman Sachs International, for the co-CEO roles.
