David LaValle was named managing director, global head of ETFs at Grayscale Investments.
It is a new position, a spokesman said in an email. Based in Stamford, Conn., Mr. LaValle reports to CEO Michael Sonnenshein.
Mr. LaValle will lead efforts by Grayscale, which touts itself as the world's largest digital currency asset manager, to convert its family of products into exchange-traded funds.
He was previously CEO of energy and infrastructure index provider Alerian. A spokesman there could not be immediately reached for further information.
Grayscale Investments has $34.5 billion in assets under management.
