Luke Sarsfield will become global co-head of asset management alongside Julian Salisbury at Goldman Sachs Asset Management, effective immediately.

The announcement was among several personnel changes at the money manager.

In addition, Laurence Stein was named executive vice president and chief operating officer of Goldman Sachs Asset Management, according to an internal memo issued on Monday by David M. Solomon, CEO of parent corporation Goldman Sachs Group, and John E. Waldron, president and chief operating officer of Goldman Sachs Group.

Mr. Sarsfield was formerly global co-head of Goldman Sachs Asset Management's client business, the memo noted. Chris Kojima and Heather Kennedy Miner were named to lead Goldman Sachs Asset Management's client business and capital markets platforms, across all alternative investments and public market strategies. Their new roles will include the responsibilities of Mr. Sarsfield's former role but "will be broader since this is combining groups into the global client business, so it's not the same as his former position," a spokesman said by email.

In addition, Ashish Shah was named to the new position of chief investment officer for the public investing organization, the memo said, while Katie Koch will become chief investment officer of the combined public markets equity business, comprising the fundamental equity and quantitative investment strategies businesses.

Armen Avanessians, global head and chief investment officer of the quantitative investment strategies platform within Goldman Sachs Asset Management, will retire from the firm in April, Messrs. Solomon and Waldron said in a separate memo.

Michael Koester and Greg Olafson will become co-presidents of the alternatives business at Goldman Sachs Asset Management, while Craig Russell will become vice chairman of Goldman Sachs Asset Management, the memo added.

Goldman Sachs Asset Management currently has $2.47 trillion assets under supervision.

Mr. Stein was formerly chief administrative officer of Goldman Sachs Group, and that post will now be filled by Ericka Leslie, the spokesman said.

Mr. Kojima was most recently global co-head of alternatives capital markets and strategy within Goldman Sachs Asset Management, while Ms. Miner recently served as chief operating officer of Goldman Sachs Asset Management, the position Mr. Stein now takes over.

Mr. Shah most recently served as co-head of Goldman Sachs Asset Management's global fixed income and liquidity solutions and global head of Goldman Sachs Asset Management's cross-sector strategy. He will be succeeded in these roles by Sam Finkelstein, the spokesman added.

Ms. Koch most recently served as co-head of the fundamental equity business within Goldman Sachs Asset Management. The head of fundamental equity business is Steve Barry, "who was previously co-head with Katie," the spokesman noted.

Mr. Koester was most recently global co-head of alternatives capital markets and strategy within Goldman Sachs Asset Management and chief commercial officer for the direct alternatives platform. The ACMS role is "being combined with the public side under the new group," the spokesman said.

Mr. Olafson was most recently global co-head of private credit within Goldman Sachs Asset Management. Tom Connolly will now serve as head of private credit, the spokesman said, noting he was previously co-head with Mr. Olafson.

Craig Russell was most recently co-head of the global client business within Goldman Sachs Asset Management. The spokesman said the global client business is being combined in the new group under Mr. Kojima and Ms. Miner.
