Taro Ueda was named a managing director at GoldenTree Asset Management, a spokeswoman confirmed.
The position is new. Mr. Ueda will lead the firm's newly opened branch office in Tokyo. He will report to Kathy Sutherland, partner and head of business development.
Mr. Ueda was managing director, relationship manager for Japanese institutional investors at Wellington Management Co. A Wellington spokeswoman could not be immediately reached for comment.
GoldenTree had more than $31 billion in assets under management as of Sept. 1.
