Giovanni D'Alesio was named head of research at GAM Investments for its alternative investment solutions business, a spokeswoman said.
Mr. D'Alesio is replacing Kier Boley. Mr. Boley will leave GAM in at the end of the first quarter and will work with Mr. D'Alesio over the coming months to ensure a smooth transition, the spokeswoman said.
Mr. D'Alesio is responsible for leading GAM's external fund manager research team and managing portfolios that combine external managers and other investment exposures, including beta, factors and alternative risk premiums.
"Giovanni brings a wealth of experience in manager research and portfolio management and will be an excellent leader and addition to the team," said Anthony Lawler, head of GAM systematic and GAM investment solutions, in a news release. "Giovanni's expertise and knowledge in manager research and portfolio management will further strengthen our distinctive client offering."
Mr. D'Alesio was a partner and head of investment origination at Capital Generation Partners. Details about his replacement could not be learned.
GAM Investments managed 135.7 billion Swiss francs ($136.9 billion) as of Sept. 30.
