Matthew Harrison, managing director of Franklin Templeton's Australian business, and Tariq Ahmad, head of the firm's Asia distribution, will become co-heads of Franklin Templeton's Asia-Pacific business, effective Aug. 1.
The two will take over the helm from Vivek Kudva, Mumbai-based head of Asia-Pacific who will retire on July 28 following 16 years with the firm.
A Franklin Templeton spokeswoman noted that while the retirement age in India is typically 60, Mr. Kudva's tenure was extended for three years when he reached that age in July 2019.
Messrs. Harrison and Ahmad "will have joint ownership and accountability of APAC strategy to best serve the firm's clients and drive growth in the region," according to a news release Wednesday. Mr. Harrison is based in Sydney and Mr. Ahmad is in Singapore.
They will retain their current responsibilities after they take on their new roles as regional co-heads.
The two executives will report to Adam Spector, the firm's Philadelphia-based executive vice president and global head of distribution.
