Matthew Williams was named senior director and head of institutional sales for Europe, Middle East and Africa at Franklin Templeton, spokeswoman Pholida Barclay confirmed.
The position is new.
Effective Sept. 1, Mr. Williams will develop and lead the institutional sales strategy and client relationship management for the firm's institutional clients in the EMEA region. He will be based in Frankfurt and report to Vivek Kudva, managing director for EMEA and India.
Mr. Williams is currently head of institutional and client service for Canada at Franklin Templeton. Franklin Templeton spokeswoman Sarah Kingdon said in an email that Franklin Templeton Canada is currently in the process of hiring someone to fill the head of Institutional and Client Service role, and "an announcement will be made at a later date."
Franklin Templeton had more than $720 billion in assets under management as of April 30.
