Bill Maldonado was appointed chief investment officer of Eastspring Investments, the asset management business of Prudential.
Mr. Maldonado also joins the company's executive management committee, according to a news release Tuesday.
Mr. Maldonado will be responsible for Eastspring's "range of investment strategies and products, spearheading the business' platform across equities, fixed income and multiasset strategies," the news release said.
Mr. Maldonado was head of equities. A spokeswoman for Eastspring said by email: "The CIO role is new; Bill was head of equities — but in this increasingly dynamic business environment, an integrated investment platform is needed to capitalize on our global execution capabilities … Hence, to create greater value for our business and clients, we are integrating our investment capabilities – equities, fixed income and multiasset – into one platform under the leadership of Bill Maldonado."
The spokeswoman added that "Bill will be based in Singapore and will continue to oversee the equities team, alongside fixed income and multiasset teams, in his role."
Based in Singapore, Eastspring managed more than $222 billion of assets on behalf of institutional and retail clients as of June 30, the release said.
