Xiaonan Tian joined Commonfund Capital as associate director and head of the private capital firm's representative office in Beijing.
The position is new at the subsidiary of Wilton, Conn.-based Commonfund.
A spokeswoman for the firm said Ms. Tian will lead the Commonfund Capital team in Beijing conducting due diligence on managers in the Asia-Pacific region for "potential inclusion" in the firm's private capital and fund-of-funds strategies.
Ms. Tian was a senior vice president in Hong Kong Shanghai Banking Corp.'s structured banking business, according to a Commonfund Capital news release. An HSBC spokesman couldn't immediately be reached for comment.
Commonfund Capital had $9.2 billion assets under management as of March 31, with $16.5 billion in commitments managed since inception, the spokeswoman said.
