William Davies will become global chief investment officer at Columbia Threadneedle Investments in January, following the retirement of Colin Moore.
Mr. Moore, based in Boston, has been with the firm for almost 20 years.
Mr. Davies will continue to be based in London, a spokeswoman said. He is currently CIO for Europe, the Middle East and Africa and global head of equities. A decision on his replacement will be communicated "in due course."
"We have built an outstanding and experienced team of more than 450 investment professionals across our global footprint, and as we look forward, William is well-positioned to assume the global CIO role," CEO Ted Truscott said in a news release. "He is both an exceptional investor and respected people leader with a deep understanding of our firm having joined us in 1993. I look forward to working with William and Colin to ensure a smooth transition."
Columbia Threadneedle has $564 billion in assets under management. In April, parent company Ameriprise Financial signed an agreement to acquire BMO Financial Group's EMEA money management business, which it said would complement Columbia Threadneedle's core business and global growth strategy and add $124 billion in European AUM.
