Chad W. Phillips has been named global head of real estate at Nuveen, effective immediately, succeeding Chris McGibbon, who has retired after nearly 25 years of service at the firm, said a March 31 news release.
In this role, Phillips will be responsible for $141 billion in assets under management of commercial real estate equity and debt investments extending across 22 countries around the world.
To ensure a smooth transition, McGibbon will remain with the firm until his retirement on June 30. McGibbon spent the last six years as Nuveen’s global head of real estate.
Phillips, who first joined Nuveen in 2019, most recently served as its global head of healthcare, office, retail and mixed-use.
A spokesperson for Nuveen said that Phillips will “continue to partner with a team of leaders dedicated to the workplace, retail and healthcare sectors,” including Nick Deacon, who will continue to lead the European sectors of workplace and retail as well as the development team; Katie Grissom, who will continue to lead U.S. retail and collaborate with Deacon on European retail strategies; Andrew Pyke, who will continue to lead U.S. healthcare; and Derreck Barker, whose role has been elevated to lead U.S. workplace.
Deacon, Grissom, Pyke and Barker will continue to report to Phillips.
Nuveen has $1.3 trillion in assets under management.
