Bob McCormick was named as executive director of the Council of Institutional Investors, succeeding Amy Borrus who retires on June 30.
McCormick’s appointment follows an extensive national search and selection process launched last fall. Korn Ferry provided executive recruiting services, a news release said.
The CII is a nonprofit, U.S.-based corporate governance advocacy organization focused on long-term asset owners and institutional investors.
“Bob’s deep knowledge and experience will be a tremendous asset to CII,” said Aeisha Mastagni, CII’s board chair and a senior portfolio manager at the California State Teachers’ Retirement System, West Sacramento. “With Bob at the helm, CII will be well-positioned to build on Amy’s success in advancing good corporate governance, strong shareholder rights and fair financial markets, while expanding CII’s membership and programming.”
McCormick serves in an advisory capacity at shareholder advisory firm PJT Camberview and at sustainable investment research and consulting firm Third Economy. He’s also on the advisory boards of Columbia Law School’s Millstein Center for Global Markets and Corporate Ownership, and the University of Delaware’s Weinberg Center on Corporate Governance. Other roles include serving as chief policy officer at proxy advisory firm Glass Lewis.
“I am extremely excited to join CII, an organization I have admired for many years as a member and active participant,” McCormick said in the same release. “I look forward to continuing the tremendous work of CII and working closely with the dedicated, experienced staff as well as the deeply committed members to further the important mission of CII to educate, advocate and promote engagement around effective corporate governance, strong shareowner rights and sensible financial regulations.”
