BlackRock's chairman and CEO, Larry Fink, was awarded $36 million in total compensation for 2021, an increase of 21% compared with $29.85 million the previous year, according to the firm's 2022 SEC proxy filing Thursday.
The largest portion of Mr. Fink's 2021 compensation package — $18.4 million — was from a long-term incentive award, followed by $11.25 million in cash; $4.85 million in deferred equity; and $1.5 million in his unchanging base salary.
The proxy statement noted that 79% of Mr. Fink's equity award was in the long-term incentive award.
In 2020, Mr. Fink's compensation of $29.85 million, which comprised a long-term incentive award of $14.9 million; cash, $9.5 million; deferred equity, $3.95 million; and his base salary of $1.5 million.
BlackRock managed a total of $9.4 trillion as of March 31.
