Wei Li was named global chief investment strategist at the BlackRock Investment Institute, a spokesman confirmed.
Ms. Li replaced Mike Pyle, who was named senior economic adviser to U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris in January. The spokesman said Ms. Li's appointment is effective immediately but there will be a transition period.
London-based Ms. Li is the primary voice on investments across asset classes and geographies for the firm. She leads critical investment discussions on equities, bonds, commodities and alternatives with BlackRock investors and clients worldwide. Reporting to Jean Boivin, head of the BlackRock Investment Institute, she also leads the institute's global investment strategist network.
Ms. Li was head of investment strategy for iShares' Europe, Middle East and Africa business. Karim Chedid replaced her. Mr. Chedid was an investment strategist on Ms. Li's team who has worked with her for eight years, the spokesman added.
