Will Thomson will join BlackRock as managing director and portfolio manager in the climate infrastructure team in New Zealand in July, the firm said in a statement on May 13.
He will be based in BlackRock’s new Auckland office, which the $10.5 trillion asset manager opened earlier this year. In his new role, he will source climate infrastructure opportunities and manage the diligence, structuring and closing of transactions in New Zealand.
BlackRock has served institutional clients and managed retirement savings for New Zealanders in the country for more than a decade.
It launched a New Zealand-focused strategy via its climate infrastructure franchise in 2023, which gives institutional investors access to opportunities such as wind, solar, batteries, green hydrogen and natural capital projects.
Thomson joins from New Zealand investment banking and wealth management firm Jarden, where he was a director of principal investments, a Jarden spokesperson confirmed. Jarden's wealth business was merged in April with the National Australia Bank's New Zealand wealth and asset management unit to form a new entity called FirstCape, which has NZ$15 billion ($9 billion) in funds under management.
