Bhupinder Bahra was named global head of BlackRock’s index fixed-income research team, a spokesperson confirmed.
The role is new. Bahra is also a managing director and is based in London.
Bahra works with the index fixed-income portfolio management, technology and product teams across the globe, building proprietary quantitative research capabilities for institutional and wealth clients. Bahra reports to Alex Claringbull, global head of indexed fixed-income and liability-driven investment at BlackRock.
The index fixed-income business has more than 120 investment professionals across the globe, and about $1.7 trillion in assets under management, according to the firm’s latest earnings.
The index fixed-income research team plays an essential role in supporting BlackRock’s efforts to “stay front-footed around index lifecycle events as well as driving globally consistent and quantitative investment decision-making,” the spokesperson said.
Bahra was a senior leader in J.P. Morgan Asset Management’s quantitative solutions business. A spokesperson could not immediately be reached for comment.
