Tomoko Ueda joined BlackRock in Tokyo as APAC head of corporate strategy and development, according to a company news release.
She replaces James McDaid, named head of strategy for BlackRock's Asia-Pacific wealth management business earlier this year, a spokesman confirmed.
In her new role, Ms. Ueda will partner with BlackRock business leaders both in the region and abroad to "formulate and execute the firm's strategy to support clients" across the Asia-Pacific region, the news release said.
Ms. Ueda was senior corporate officer and global head of strategic planning and management information at Nikko Asset Management. Jiro Ikegaya, Nikko's London-based chief of staff and EMEA head of product and marketing, will take on the role of global head of strategic planning and management information as well, a Nikko spokesman said.
Separately, Aarti Angara joined BlackRock as APAC head of product, the news release said.
The role was previously overseen on an interim basis by BlackRock's New York-based head of global product group Brendan Kyne, the BlackRock spokesman said.
Ms. Angara was chief investment officer at Hong Kong-based Caravel Asset Management, according to the BlackRock news release.
A Caravel spokesman couldn't immediately be reached for comment.
BlackRock reported assets under management of $8.49 trillion as of June 30, with 8% — roughly $680 billion — managed on behalf of clients based in the Asia-Pacific region.
