Shawn T. Wooden was named partner and chief public pension strategist at Apollo Global Management.
It is a new position, a spokesman said in an email. Mr. Wooden is currently state treasurer and principal fiduciary of the $42.2 billion Connecticut Retirement Plans & Trust Funds, Hartford. Mr. Wooden, who announced earlier this year he would not seek a second term as treasurer, completes his role in January. Erick Russell was elected as Mr. Wooden’s successor earlier this month.
Mr. Wooden, who will join Apollo in late January and be based in Greenwich, Conn., will be responsible for the manager’s relationships with public pension plans, expanding products designed for the public pension plan market and providing thought leadership, the spokesman said.
As of Sept. 30, Apollo Global Management had about $523 billion in assets under management.
