Thijs Aaten was named CEO for APG Asset Management Asia, effective Sept. 1, based in the manager's regional head office in Hong Kong.
Mr. Aaten will replace Wim Hazeleger, who is leaving APG after 10 years as Asia CEO to pursue new opportunities, a news release said. Mr. Aaten will work alongside Mr. Hazeleger until Sept. 30 to ensure a smooth transition, a spokeswoman for APG said.
APG manages about $30 billion in Asia-Pacific investments and has business operations across Hong Kong, Shanghai and Beijing.
Mr. Aaten is chief finance and risk officer for APG Asset Management Asia. He will be succeeded by Michael van Ommeren, who will join the firm Sept. 1. Most recently, he was chief operating officer at Indosuez Wealth Management.
Mr. Aaten "is an accomplished financial expert, and APG has gained from his broad vision and ability to make good use of opportunities for many years now," said Ronald Wuijster, CEO of APG Asset Management, in the news release. "His experience in both financial and risk management, and his four years in Hong Kong ensures a smooth transition in leadership and provides continuity for our Asia-Pacific operations."
APG manages €553 billion ($555.2 billion) in assets under management, including on behalf of the €514 billion Stichting Pensioenfonds ABP, Heerlen, Netherlands.
