Bob Sharma was named head of insurance for Europe, Middle East, Africa, and the Asia-Pacific region at U.S. asset management firm AllianceBernstein, according to a news release.
Sharma will be based in London. He will oversee AB’s strategic relationships with insurance clients in EMEA and APAC, and work closely with various teams within AB including product development, insurance portfolio management, and insurance solutions to address client needs.
AllianceBernstein has been contacted for comment on whether this is a newly created role or Sharma replaces someone in the position.
“AB has a long history in insurance, and the sector continues to be a key market for us in both EMEA and APAC," said Geoff Cornell, CIO of insurance at AB, in the news release. "Bob brings new and unique investment strategy perspective to AB through his experience across various channels,”
AllianceBernstein had $793 billion in assets under management as of Oct. 31. The firm is also to expand its insurance platform through a nonexclusive partnership with Reinsurance Group of America.
Sharma joins from Wellington Management, having been with the firm since 2005, most recently as head of EMEA insurance. At Wellington, James Bradbury will assume responsibility as head of U.K. insurance.
