James Barber was named executive vice president, public equities, at Alberta Investment Management Corp., company spokesman Denes Nemeth confirmed in an email.
Effective July 14, he replaces Peter Pontikes, who left the company in June 2020.
Mr. Barber will lead the investment team responsible for AIMCo's global public equities, which has C$47.4 billion ($38.2 billion) in assets. He will report directly to AIMCo Chief Investment Officer Dale MacMaster.
Mr. Barber was co-founder and managing partner of AMP Investment Partners before serving as chief investment officer, equities, at Russell Investments. A representative from AMP could not be immediately reached for additional information.
AIMCo has C$129 billion in AUM.
