John H.J. "Jack" Granahan, 87, who founded Granahan Investment Management in 1985, died on Dec. 18 at his home in Concord, Mass., due to complications from a previous illness.
The Philadelphia-born Granahan started his investing career in 1961 at Wellington Management. In 1979, he left that firm to establish Granahan-Everitt Investments, before co-founding Granahan Investment Management in 1985 with Jane White, who now serves as the firm's CEO.
In an interview with Pensions & Investments in June, White said of her mentor, Granahan: "He said if you want to be an analyst, if you put the work in, I will do everything in my power to help you, and well, he did."
Based in Waltham, Mass., Granahan Investment Management focuses on small- and mid-cap growth stocks and has more than $3 billion in assets under management.
Granahan is survived by his wife of 34 years, Kathleen, and six sons and their families.
Granahan's funeral Mass will be celebrated on Dec. 27 at 10 a.m. at St. Bernard's Church at Holy Family Parish, in Concord, Mass., according to an obituary published by Dee Funeral Home & Cremation Service.
