Sanford “Sandy” Robertson, co-founder of private equity firm Francisco Partners, died on Aug. 3 at the age of 93, said a news release issued on the same date.
Prior to co-founding Francisco Partners in 1999, Robertson was the founder and chairman of Robertson, Stephens & Co., a technology investment bank that was formed in 1978 and was subsequently sold to Bank of America in 1998.
Prior to that, he founded Robertson, Coleman, Siebel & Weisel, which was later renamed Montgomery Securities, another technology investment bank.
Throughout his career, Robertson advised many well-known investment firms and companies, including AOL, Applied Materials, Chiron, Cypress Semiconductor, Dell, E-Trade, Gilead Sciences, Pixar, Sun Microsystems and Salesforce.com, the news release said.
Robertson is survived by his wife, Nancy; three daughters, Laura, Brett and Lee Ann; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Francisco Partners has about $45 billion in capital raised, the release said.
