Ohio State Teachers records 3.14% return for fiscal year

Ohio State Teachers Retirement System, Columbus, returned 3.14% for the fiscal year ended June 30, spokesman Nick Treneff said.

The $78.8 billion pension fund's return was 7 basis points above its policy benchmark return of 3.07%.

For the three, five and 10 years ended June 30, the pension fund returned an annualized net 6.6%, 6.9% and 9.4%, above their respective benchmarks of 6.4%, 6.6% and 9.3%.

The pension fund returned 7.1% for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2019.

Mr. Treneff said return numbers are net of fees for external real estate assets and alternative investments and gross of fees for all other investments.

By asset class, the top performer was fixed income for the fiscal year ended June 30, returning a gross 8.1% (above its 7.9% benchmark), followed by domestic equities with a gross 7.9% (above the 6.5% benchmark); real estate, net 2.3% (0.9%); alternative investments, net -1% (no benchmark); and international equities, gross -5.2% (-3.6%).

As of June 30, the actual allocation was 28.2% domestic equities, 23.1% international equities, 14.9% core fixed income, 9.7% real estate, 8.8% each opportunistic/diversified investments and private equity, 4.6% liquid Treasury portfolio and 1.9% liquidity reserves.
