Erik Bernhardt has joined Reed College as its first chief investment officer, said Kevin T. Myers, director of strategic communications at the college in Portland, Ore.
Mr. Bernhardt leads the management of the college's $580 million endowment, which provides more than 25% of the college's annual operating budget. Reed College created the CIO position following a review process by its investment committee to determine the optimal endowment management model.
Mr. Bernhardt had been a director at Artisan Partners. Mike Roos, Artisan spokesman, could not immediately be reached for comment.
