Joe Cullen was named chief investment officer at Pennsylvania State University, a news release from the University Park-based school announced.
Effective Sept. 16, he will replace John Pomeroy, who retired on Dec. 31.
Mr. Cullen will be responsible for managing the investment portfolios of Penn State's $4 billion long-term investment pool, which contains $2.8 billion in endowment assets. He will report to David Branigan, CEO for the Penn State office of investment management.
Mr. Cullen was CIO for the $11.3 billion Montana Board of Investments, Helena. Dan Villa, the board's executive director, confirmed in an email that he will serve as acting CIO and the board will discuss recruitment options at its regular meeting in August.
