Mark P. Wetjen will resign as commissioner of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, effective Aug. 28, the CFTC said in a news release.
Mr. Wetjen has been in the post since October 2011. He also served as acting chairman of the commission from January to June 2014, between the resignation of Gary Gensler and the appointment of Timothy Massad, the current CFTC chairman.
While interim chairman, Mr. Wetjen oversaw the implementation of the first trading mandate for certain interest rate and credit default swaps.
Mr. Wetjen has not announced his plans. President Barack Obama will nominate a replacement for Mr. Wetjen, but there is no timeline for doing so. There are no other vacancies on the CFTC.
