Ravi Rastogi joined Mercer as a partner and insurance group leader for Europe, said a spokeswoman.
Mr. Rastogi leads the expansion of Mercer’s insurance group. The role is new, reflecting the expansion in scope and scale of the consultant’s insurance activities, said the spokeswoman in an e-mail.
Part of the investments business, the insurance group helps insurers address investment and compliance issues that arise from restrictive regulations and changing market expectations.
Based in London, Mr. Rastogi will also strengthen existing partnerships with parent company Marsh & McLennan’s other operating companies, including Marsh and Guy Carpenter.
“Our intention is that (Mr. Rastogi) and his Mercer colleagues help Marsh & McLennan deliver a comprehensive range of risk management and investment services to the insurance market,” said Andrew Kirton, senior partner and investments leader for the Europe and Pacific regions, in a news release. “We have ambitious expansion plans for our insurance group. (Mr. Rastogi) will bring knowledge, energy and innovative thinking to this important initiative.”
The spokeswoman added that there are a number of further appointments to the group “in the pipeline,” although how many appointments the expansion will garner in total is “to be assessed.”
Mr. Rastogi was previously Europe, the Middle East and Africa leader of the insurance investment advisory group at Towers Watson. A spokeswoman for Towers Watson could not be reached for comment by press time.
