The number of oil and natural gas rigs operating in the U.S. is down 8.1% from a year ago, according to weekly data released by Baker Hughes Inc. As of Friday, 1,633 rigs were operating in the U.S., down from 1,777 a year ago.
It’s the lowest number of rigs operating in the U.S. since August 2010, as the price of oil continues to plunge. Oil was off 1.89% for the week ended Friday.
The total number of rigs operating in North America is down 12.8% from last year.
