A look at selected capital markets worldwide.
Equities mostly up: Equities were largely positive around the globe. In local currencies, the MSCI World index was up 7.7%, MSCI Emerging Markets gained 5.2% and the MSCI World ex-U.S. rose 3.6%.
Fixed income steady: Fixed-income portfolios benefited from falling interest rates — the yield on 10-year U.S. Treasuries dropped 86 basis points.
Real assets hit or miss: REIT returns were well above average, while commodities slid – led by the plunge in oil prices.
Dollar dominates: The U.S. dollar began its climb in the second half, rising 13.2% from June 30.
