In 2014, the number of millionaires worldwide rose by 3.84 million since mid-2013 -- a 12.4% increase from the prior year, according to Credit Suisse's Global Wealth Report 2014.
The United Kingdom -- where the number of millionaires rose by 30.5% (to 2.04 million) -- saw the highest percentage increase, followed by Spain (23.7%), Italy (15.6%) and France (14.5%).
The U.S. is still home to the largest number of millionaires worldwide. The 14.2 million adults with wealth above $1 million in the U.S. account for 40.7% of the worldwide total.
