New York State Teachers' Retirement System, Albany, posted an 18.2% return on its investments for the fiscal year ended June 30, said John Cardillo, a spokesman for the $108.2 billion pension fund.
The pension fund has had an average annualized return of 13.8% for the past five years, Mr. Cardillo wrote in an e-mail. The actuarially assumed rate of return is 8% per year.
The NYSTRS funding ratio for the 12 months ended June 30 was an estimated 93%, based on an actuarial value of assets basis. For the previous 12 months, the ratio was 87.5%.
The information was provided to the pension fund's 10-member governing board at its quarterly meeting Thursday in Albany.
At the meeting, the board approved renewing contracts — both for one year and both starting Feb. 1 — with Hewitt EnnisKnupp as its general investment consultant and with Callan Associates as real estate consultant.
