Activist hedge fund assets have grown at a rapid pace, likely driven by the attractive return profile.
Money flood: Flows through the first three quarters of 2014 have already eclipsed those of any single year in the past 10 years.
Assets take off: Total assets have grown nearly 20% annually since 2005.
Outperformance: The average net return among activist hedge funds outpaced the total hedge fund universe in both the short and long term.
A bumpier ride: Overall, risk-adjusted returns don't stack up as well, given the higher volatility associated with activist funds. The five-year Sharpe ratio of 0.87 trailed that of all hedge funds, which was 1.19.
