SAN FRANCISCO - Callan Associates Inc., San Francisco, has begun a program to provide beginning- to intermediate-level pension management training for pension trustees, administrators and other pension professionals.
The program is called the Center for Investment Training and will offer two-and-a-half days of sessions, led by Callan consultants, that try to provide an overview of the major elements of pension management.
Study will begin with fiduciary standards and responsibilities, and will finish with performance measurement and evaluation.
Donald B. Trone, vice president for Callan, said the center was created as a way to formally address requests to Callan for pension education.
The public fund sector, in particular, seems to have a need to bring its new fund fiduciaries up to speed on the basics of pension management, Mr. Trone said.
Other sources of interest in a formal pension training program come from non-U.S. pension fund fiduciaries, and through Callan's association of smaller investment consultants, the Investment Management Council, he said.
The program costs $1,200. The first two sessions were held at Callan's headquarters Feb. 28 and April 18.
Subsequent sessions are scheduled to begin June 13, Aug. 22 and Oct. 17.
