Assistant Secretary of Labor Olena Berg has proven to be the fastest sub-Cabinet runner for the second year in a row.
"Well, it's nice to be consistently winning at something," said Ms. Berg after her latest feat.
Ms. Berg and her team, "The Reich (as in Labor Secretary Robert Reich) Stuff" went stride-for-stride against other politicos and media runners in the 14th annual Nike Capital Challenge in Washington.
The assistant secretary, who heads the Pension and Welfare Benefits Administration, turned in a 25: 52 time for the three-mile course, a slight minute off of last year's pace of 24: 57.
Ms. Berg said she was looking forward to racing against last year's rival, Alice Rivlin. But Ms. Rivlin, formerly deputy director and now director of the Office of Management and Budget, dodged the challenge by jumping up a level to the independent agency head category. (Ms. Berg still shot ahead of Ms. Rivlin, who finished the course in 35: 45.)
Ms. Berg usually puts in 15 to 20 miles a week - "just enough so I can eat what I want."
