The National Academy of Social Insurance today announced it had formed a panel of experts to study the various proposals to ``privatize'' Social Security. The panel will be headed by Michael J. Boskin, a Stanford University economist and a former chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers, and Peter A. Diamond, an economist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and president of the academy. Others on the panel include Sylvester J. Schieber, research director of Watson Wyatt Worldwide, and a member of the last national task force on Social Security; Dallas L. Salisbury, head of the Employee Benefits Research Institute; and Ian D. Lanoff, principal at the law firm Groom & Nordberg.
