The $892 million San Joaquin County Employees' Retirement Association, Stockton, Calif., hired Nicholas Applegate to run small-cap growth equities, said Robert Palmer, retirement administrator. The association assigned the new manager $37 million. Assets came from reallocating among other equity managers; all were retained.
