European small-capitalization growth stocks were the best first-quarter performer of 60 major regional indexes tracked by Parametric Portfolio Associates, Seattle.
European small-cap growth stocks returned 10.5% in U.S. dollar terms. The next best performer was midcap European stocks, which advanced 7.9%. Next was the index of small-cap Europe and Pacific stocks, up 7.5%.
In comparison, Parametric's best performing index for North America was its midsized stock index, which was up 6.8%.
The worst performer in the universe was large-cap growth stocks in the Pacific region, where performance fell 0.2%.
Besides its major regional indexes, Parametric provides an array of 288 country indexes, also delineated by size and style. In that group, the best performer was Italian small-growth stocks, which were up 32.5%.
