Donald Gimbel, former managing director at Furman Selz, started his own value-oriented global equity firm concentrating on high-net worth individuals and small pension funds. Gimbel Asset Management's approach is research-driven growth at a reasonable price, using a top-down country allocation style, he said. He plans to keep the firm small, no more than about $400 million under management. So far, he has about $25 million from individual investors.
